Dear all, I am pleased to announce that we are opening today a W3C Feed Validation Service [1], a free online tool which helps check the syntax of syndication feeds in formats such as RSS and Atom. [1] http://validator.w3.org/feed/ This service is based on the open source software feedvalidator [2] (the same software running the service at feedvalidator.org), and we are excited to be able to provide another service to the community in addition to our existing validators, checkers, etc. while using and participating in the development of an open-source software product. Feedvalidator was written by Sam Ruby, Mark Pilgrim, Joseph Walton, and Phil Ringnalda and is under development over at sourceforge [2]. [2] http://sourceforge.net/projects/feedvalidator In addition to the existing features of the feedvalidator, we have made available a SOAP web service [3] for the W3C feed validation service, and we hope that it will be a useful resource for the automatic or batch validation of feeds. [3] http://validator.w3.org/feed/docs/api.html This service is, for the moment, still quite experimental, and may have bugs or problems. As explained in the about page [4] for the service, feedback (clear and detailed messages, please) should be sent to this list, www-validator. Since the underlying software feedvalidator is not developed at W3C, reports of software bugs could, and should, be sent to the sourceforge mailing-list [5]. However, it may not be obvious whether a problem comes from the software or how we are using it, if in doubt, it's ok to send your messages here.
